What would your daily routine look like if driving wasn't an option?
Nearly one in three Americans doesn't drive. Whether due to age, disability, income, or personal choice, a significant portion of our Sun Prairie neighbors rely on walking, rolling, biking, and transit to get where they need to go—to work, the grocery store, school, or doctor appointments.
As part of the national Week Without Driving initiative, Sun Prairie Moves is excited to highlight a hands-on opportunity for our community to step into the shoes of non-drivers and help shape safer, more accessible streets for everyone.
Imagine Sun Prairie Without a Car
The Week Without Driving challenge invites motorists, city leaders, and community members to reflect on our transportation choices and the physical barriers in our built environment.
When you navigate a city without a car, the reality of our infrastructure quickly comes into focus:
- Do sidewalks connect seamlessly, or do they abruptly end?
- Are pedestrian crossings visible, safe, and timed fairly?
- Is public transit accessible and reliable for daily errands?
- Can someone using a wheelchair, stroller, or mobility device navigate streets without stepping into traffic?
Building a vibrant, connected Sun Prairie means ensuring all residents have safe, dignified, and reliable ways to move around town—regardless of whether they hold a driver's license.
Take Action: Join the Sun Prairie Walk & Roll Audit
To actively evaluate local infrastructure and highlight areas for improvement, AARP Wisconsin, the Greater Madison MPO, and the City of Sun Prairie are hosting a community Walk & Roll Audit.
We want your lived perspective on the ground! Together, we’ll walk and roll through local routes, observe traffic conditions, evaluate sidewalks and bus stops, and pinpoint concrete ways to make Sun Prairie streets safer for all ages and abilities.
