Presidents Report: Major milestones & accomplishments in 2024

  • Completed and submitted the Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) application on behalf of the city of Sun Prairie
    • Awaiting results and feedback in January 2025
  • Participated in Ad-hoc Downtown Design Committee meetings
    • Downtown design plan was submitted and presented to public
  • Participated in Vision Zero Steering Committee and Agency Workshop
    • Consultant is finalizing plan
  • Participated in Bike Subcommittee meetings
    • Reviewed and made suggestions to infrastructure improvements
  • Participated in Greater Madison Bike Partners monthly meetings
    • Shared and learned about best practices to promote bicycling
    • Advocating for MPO to support Safe Routes To Schools SRTS in Sun Prairie
  • Submitted letters of support for City of Sun Prairie grant applications:
    • Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP)
    • Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP)
  • Submitted a letter of support to WisDOT for Hwy151/I-90/94/39 redesign
    • Advocated for multi-use paths to be part of the design
  • Sponsored City of Sun Prairie - Park, Recreation, & Forestry events:
    • Concerts in the Park
    • Pedal The Prairie Challenge
    • Provided information for Park & Rec Comprehensive Plan
  • Renewed GuideStar Seal of Transparency
    • Maintained Silver status, required for Facebook, PayPal, and GoFundMe (503c)
  • Supported, participated in, and organized the following events:
    • The Lions Bike Rodeo
    • Parks Friends - Earth Day Park clean-up
    • Move4BGCC team
    • Bike to the Farmers Market
    • Creekside Back to School Picnic
    • Bikes, Brats, & Brews
    • Wednesday Night Bike Ride (WNBR)
    • Creekside Elementary Safety Day
    • Community Biergarten bike parking
    • TREK East Ride and Coffee
    • Regular Sun Prairie group rides
    • Smart Cycling Winter edition (happening in 2025)
    • SPARC Community Transportation Conversation
    • Week Without Driving
    • Community Bicycle Education at the Sun Prairie Public Library
    • Wisconsin Bike Week
  • People for Bikes ranking - maintaining a top 15 ranking for WI communities

Goals for 2025:

  1. Review BFC feedback and make long-term plans to achieve higher level
  2. Plan a Public engagement meeting for Spring 2025
    • Invite Engineering department
    • Invite WisDOT
      • Update on Hwy151/I90/94/29 re-design
  3. Continue partnership with SPPRF
    • Bike racks for events
    • Promote biking to events
    • Installation of bike racks in parks
  4. Continue advocating for multi-modal transportation on all public and private projects
  5. Maintain participation in “Transportation committee” & other public groups/committees

The Greater Madison MPO (Municipal Planning Organization) launched a new app and website for the Dane County Bike Map. The new app makes it very easy to find nearby bike repair stations, on-street & off-street paths, and mountain biking trails.
