The Sheehan Park singletrack proposal was included in today's Parks and Recreation Committee meeting. Prior to discussing our proposal, the topic of parks arose in regards to an area that is currently being apportioned on the west side and future neighborhoods. This grew into a discussion on long term plans for Sun Prairie parks.
Next on the schedule was our proposal which deepened the discussion on comprehensive plans for both Sheehan Park and city parks as a whole. The result of this discussion was that they voted against singletrack trails in Sheehan Park. They also proposed that a long term plan be created that includes support for mountain biking within Sun Prairie city limits. With that in mind, we will be working with both the Park and Recreation Committee, various Alders and the Director of Public Works on plans to locate another option for trails in Sun Prairie.
Thank you to everyone who supported this proposal and especially those who wrote emails and letters to city officials and attended various meetings. According to the committee members tonight, due to our open communication and willingness to discuss and address concerns, public support changed from 90% against these trails in Sheehan Park to 70% in support. We hope to take that support and propose an even better trail system somewhere else in town.
Please stay tuned here for future details.
