Sun Prairie, more bicycle racks are needed!

You may have seen our Facebook post in regards to the lack of bicycle parking at (local) Sun Prairie businesses. Below are a few examples. These examples are not meant to call out any specific business, rather, we want to draw attention to this issue. We see this everywhere around town.

Bicycling has grown and maybe when these businesses were established there was no need. This is no longer the case! Let us work together to find solutions and provide better accommodations for all types of transportation!

Businesses can attract new customers, by providing good, clean, and safe bicycle parking. This also reduces the risk of bicycles blocking egress and potentially damaging property (walls, cars, ...).

We understand, that when these businesses were established, there were no requirements for them to add a bicycle rack. We would like see more bicycle racks installed! Efforts between the City of Sun Prairie, BID, Chamber of Commerce and other businesses and organizations should provide better bicycle parking.

Next time you visit a local business, and they don't provide accommodations for all of their customers, please ask them about it! We are asking you to be polite and simple state that you would like to see bicycle parking, to allow you to safely secure your bicycle at or near the businesses.

Some local businesses may struggle and this simple isn't something they can do. There are grants available and we would be happy to help find appropriate solutions for every location.

You can also reach out to your alders and ask them to push for regulations to include a percentage of parking at new developments/establishments to be for bicycles!
