The city of Sun Prairie alders just approved the 2019 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), but removed two bicycling projects! Wondering what roads and infrastructure will be improved in 2019? Read the full article on The Star’s website and see this map with all the streets highlighted.

We just learned that both the bicycle lanes project and multi-use paths signage project have been pulled out of the 2019 CIP plan! The Public Works committee was in support and felt that all CIP criteria was met and should have been included. If you feel the same way, please contact your alder and let them know!

How to contact your alder!

This is the reply I got from Mary Polenske:

Thank you for your email of concern… here is the correct information:
The street bike path construction is not a Capital Improvement as it is painting and striping on roads.. it needs to be in the general budget documents. Mr. Steven’s made a motion at public works to put the bike paths in the capitol improvement plan. At Committee of the Whole it was discussed and council was told street bike paths are not capitol improvement projects and would be in the general 2019 budget.
I have to admit this took me awhile to remember all the details… I do support bike paths and will support the street additional paths when the 2019 budget comes before us.
Please let others in your bike group know we did not vote them out!!
