When: June 7th, ride at 6:00 pm, food starts at 7:30 pm

Where: the East Shelter at Wetmore Community Park in Sun Prairie
555 North Street, Sun Prairie, WI 53590
Wetmore Community Park
(for directions click on map)

Ride details:

  • There are three ride options:
    • The casual pace ride: 9 miles with 300 feet of climbing.
Riders should be able to maintain an average speed higher than 6mph to return by 7:30 pm. The group will most likely maintain a pace of 8mph or higher.
    • The brisk pace ride: 18 miles with 500 feet of climbing.
Riders should be able to maintain an average speed higher than 12mph to return by 7:30 pm. The group will most likely maintain a pace of 14 mph or higher.
    • The fast ride: 27 miles with 800 feet of climbing.
Riders should be able to maintain an average speed higher than 18mph to return by 7:30 pm. The group will most likely maintain a pace of 20mph or higher.
  • Compared to last year:
    • The same three courses allowing you to experience the roads and areas around Sun Prairie.
    • The same timing for all three distances in hopes of everyone returning in time for food.
    • A reasonable amount of climbing to keep you strong to the finish.
    • All three courses leave town on Wilburn for a reasonable amount of traffic.
    • As with last year, all three rides will include a ride leader only. Sorry, no tail gunners or sweep riders this year.
    • All turns will be marked on the road using temporary paint or chalk. This way you won’t have to rely on the ride leader or the paper stuffed in your pocket. Yes, we know about the missing arrows on a couple courses last year. Hopefully they will stick for this year’s rendition.
  • This is a not a “no-drop” ride and is technically self-supported.
  • A limited number of printed cue sheets will be available before the ride.
  • Here are downloadable cue sheets and GPS files:

Riding Participation:

  • Riders should be comfortable riding on the open road.
  • Riders should bring a personal bike which is in proper working condition.
  • Though not required, we suggest bringing a blinking tail light and recommend a daytime running taillight.
  • We suggest you bring a rain cape (jacket) and lights just in case you get caught in the rain. Even if it doesn’t rain, it is supposed to be overcast so the lights will be useful safety items.
  • Considering this is a self-supported ride, riders should be prepared to repair their own mechanical issues on the ride and come equipped with a mobile phone.
  • All riders must wear a properly fitting bicycle helmet.
  • Riders should choose their ride distance based on the pace notes above. Please don’t choose a ride that is above your current comfort zone as we want you to be able to participate in the fun and food post ride.

Food:

  • We will supply a limited number of brats, hot dogs, buns and drinks
  • Please consider bringing something to share like your favorite side dish or dessert
  • Please consider bringing your favorite drink to share
  • Please let us know if you are are coming so we can plan accordingly. To reach out, visit the event page on Facebook or send us a note using the Contact Us form at the bottom of this page.

Though we suggest you come for the ride and stay for the food, you don’t have to ride. Bring the family, enjoy the park and spend some time with other cycling enthusiasts. We could always use more volunteers as well.

Notes

  • We will ride, rain or shine. Just keep your fingers crossed for dry skies.
  • In case of thunderstorms, we may skip the ride and focus on festivities at the park shelter.
